Job Description: The Marketing Business Unit (MBU) provides strategic direction and commercial execution in areas involving marketing, market development, new ventures/opportunities and acquisitions. In supporting the long-term strategy and vision, the MBU looks across commodity value chains. Primary commodities include natural gas, ethane, propane, butane, condensate, crude oil and electricity. The MBU optimizes capacity and margins using our transportation, processing and logistics capabilities. We strive to understand ever-changing market dynamics. Pembina’s MBU is searching for a Financial Commodity Trading Specialist to join its Calgary team. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the group’s success. They will execute trades of financial instruments and commodity contracts that support and complement asset backed trading strategies executed by colleagues who trade physical oil, NGLs, natural gas and electricity. The candidate will also provide economic analysis and contribute to the development of creative approaches to price risk management. They will be able to analyze complex data and recognize business opportunities. They will be committed to best practices and consistent compliance to policies and relevant law. Job Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with Market Fundamentals Team to provide market views and hedge recommendations in support of the commodity teams and business units; and Distill trends and important implications from complex data sets; Prepare recommendations and develop strategies that can add value and mitigate risks; Execute transactions that offset and manage price risks, in careful collaboration with physical traders; Prepare presentations that clearly communicate market fundamentals and how they will impact Pembina. Enter into positions and effectively schedule and execute the appropriate unwinding of the positions to achieve the desired risk management strategy. Passionately study market fundamentals, trends and important themes; Manage strong relationships with exchanges, clearing agents, brokers, OTC counterparties and regulators; Understand Pembina’s commodity trading exposures; Understand the effectiveness of the instruments you are trading to offset the price risk inherent in the underlying physical business; Disciplined at managing and warehousing critical data, employing best practices; Assess the most effective parties to transact with; and Maintain collaborative relationships with physical trading book owners, leaders, middle and back office; Always understand your book’s position and how it offsets or complements each physical trade book; Job Requirements: A network of industry contracts and the ability to recommend appropriate counterparties; Is a self-starter with a strong bias for action with a sense of urgency and high energy.
