Job Description: As a Foreign Service Medical Provider, you’ll work with more than 200 clinicians practicing in 170+ countries to bring compassionate care and medical treatment to U.S. diplomats and their families on behalf of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Medical Services. We are the main provider of medical services to U.S. Government embassy personnel and their eligible family members serving primarily in countries with austere local medical facilities. As a member of the healthcare team working abroad, you will provide care in both primary and emergency settings, collaborate with local medical professionals, liaise with international medical experts, and act as the health and safety expert at your location. You will engage in diplomacy, lead and effect policy change, and protect your colleagues from disease and environmental threats. Every two to four years you will have the opportunity to practice in a new location. All in all, you can truly make a difference—wherever you go. To qualify, you must have a current license and national certification as a physician assistant or Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of five (5) years of full-time, primary care clinical experience within the past seven (7) years. Primary care experience should include Pediatrics and Women’s Health as well as Adults. You must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of primary care practice fundamentals. In addition, experience in acute or emergency care is desired.
