Job Description: This position is in the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development (OPEPD), Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO). The SPPO leads the Department’s efforts to protect privacy. It provides leadership, oversight, and coordination to ensure Department and field compliance with several federal privacy laws and regulations. Job Responsibilities: Coordinates and oversees internal stakeholders, such as information system owners, information system security officers, the Office of the General Counsel, and other individuals in the Department’s privacy program, to draft, review, and process Privacy Threshold Analyses, Privacy Impact Assessments, System of Records Notices, and Computer Matching Agreements and Notices. Interprets and applies laws, regulations, policies, and guidance regarding federal and student information in order to safeguard personally identifiable information across the full information life cycle. Provides expert technical assistance to a wide variety of customers, such as program managers, information system owners, information system security officers, and officials at other agencies with regard to the requirements of the Agency’s privacy program. Performs analytical work involved in establishing privacy best practices and for advising agency management on policy formulation and program administration to ensure compliance with Federal privacy laws, regulations, and other requirements. Represents SPPO as an expert consultant or advisor in working with the Office of the General Counsel and other offices such as the Office of the Chief Information Officer and the Office of the Chief Data Officer, to implement policies and procedures for managers and clients within the organization.
