CDC is actively recruiting for an exceptional candidate for the position of Director, Division of Preparedness and Emerging Infections (DPEI), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) in Atlanta, Georgia. As Director, DPEI, the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership in planning, managing, directing, and coordinating the activities of DPEI. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing CDC and its partners to use vaccines, drugs, and diagnostic tests— countermeasures that would be critically important to saving lives during a large-scale public health emergency caused by bioterrorists, collaborating with public health laboratories throughout the world to implement the quality standards necessary for effective disease detection and successful partnerships. Target diseases that are a special problem for Alaska Natives, such as viral hepatitis and foodborne botulism. Job Responsibilities: Collaborate and provide leadership internally and externally (other federal, local, and state agencies and organizations), as well as international medical and health-related organizations. Provide leadership/ executive direction, planning, coordination, and strategic vision involving outbreaks, bioterrorism, and other public health emergencies. Be responsible for managing the Laboratory Response Network, which links 160 highly specialized laboratories, including health department laboratories, federal and military laboratories, environmental testing, and diagnostic veterinary laboratories, as well as international laboratories. Participate as a member of the Center senior leadership team, chartered with making long- term strategic decisions that impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the Center and Division. Exercise leadership to ensure all programs under his/ her direction reflect the principles of workforce diversity in their management and operations in such areas as recruitment and staffing, employee development, staff assignments, and communications. Provide the vision and direction to accomplish Center and Division strategic imperatives as they relate to saving lives during a large-scale public health emergency. Direct and manage the operations of the Division with primary responsibility for providing leadership and guidance to staff.
