Job Description: Tesla Inc. is seeking a Technical Editor to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. You will be the conduit between a rapidly growing global service team and the engineering teams who diagnose and design our products. By using in-house tools, collaborating with engineers from design, service, new product introduction, and working collaboratively with diagnostics, training, technical operations, you will directly contribute to Tesla’s ability to service and maintain a rapidly growing fleet of critical products – products like Megapack, Powerpack, Supercharger, and Solar Roof, each of which plays a critical role in our path to a sustainable future. Job Responsibilities: Partner with engineering teams to create and update diagnostic information and procedures contained in the diagnostics database for use by non-engineers. Understand technical problems and communicate them effectively to non-technical people. Collaborate with various engineering and quality teams to gather technical information. Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases). Improve editorial and visual standards for documentation and recommend new designs, layouts, and formatting as needed. Edit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standards. Validate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approval. Job Requirements: 1-3 years working experience in related field. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and evaluate priorities. Ability to edit and create documentation that is accurate, complete, clear, specific, and as concise as possible. Bachelors in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical / Professional Writing, Journalism, Communications, or relevant working experience. Ability to explain technical concepts to peers, people from different parts of the organization, and non-technical people. High level of interpersonal communication skills. Experience with HTML, XML, DITA, Markdown, Git, SQL, and/or Python is a plus. Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Can extract and comprehend system operation from typical engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g. schematics and subsystem specification documents).
