Job Responsibilities:

The work includes formulating information, fact finding, source search strategies and reviewing data to identify patterns and relationships across financial, criminal, public record, and other information. Reporting on a variety of investigative and intelligence information to support ongoing criminal and civil investigations. The incumbent independently evaluates interrelated facts to determine the relevancy of information; identifying leads to further investigative efforts; and deciding when sufficient information has been gathered to substantiate criminal activity. Generates documentation and correspondence in support of investigative activities and intelligence gathering for criminal investigators. Independently performs specialized duties with the control of seized evidence. Analyzes, interprets and adapts guidelines, regulations, and policy to a wide variety of evidence control problems. Uses specialized and complicated techniques such as taking pictures, weights, inventories, casting and officially sealing evidence for storage Provides confidential services for the Patrol Captain, Law Enforcement Officers, and Special Agents on a wide range of controversial and sensitive resources and personnel matters. Liaisons with internal components and external law enforcement agencies to coordinate and complete all necessary agreements and supporting documentation. Creates, maintains, and updates: investigative case files, employee development files, and other program area files. Serves as financial assistant, and keeps a complete and accurate record of expenditures for the unit. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Controlling and packaging evidence; providing administrative support to first line supervisors or investigators; preparing reports. For the GS-9 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; OR a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
