Job Description: The Senior Technical Advisor acts as an in-house consultant providing guidance and advice to lending, insurance and equity underwriting groups from deal origination through to signing, monitoring, and asset management. The work of the Senior Technical Advisor results in enhanced and better-informed negotiations, structuring and decision making with respect to the financial transactions undertaken by EDC. The incumbent will work within a team of technical advisors covering a broad range of sectors and is expected to have the versatility and interest to expand the knowledge base and provide support across other sectors in addition to his or her primary sectors of expertise and responsibility. Technical Advisory Services is a dedicated team of engineering professionals with business experience in key industries. The team brings skills and knowledge that combine engineering and project management expertise and commercial discipline to our customers. We assess and help mitigate technical, industry, operational, commercial and managerial risks associated with financial services provided by EDC. This includes due diligence services on technical and commercial feasibility of project and investment proposals. A significant proportion of work is in structured and project finance, but not exclusively. Job Responsibilities: Deliver advisory services primarily to internal clients Undertake due diligence and technical and operational risk assessments regarding investment, financing and insurance underwriting proposals. Analyze key documents such as business plans, feasibility studies, cost estimates, implementation plans, technical designs, schedules and related commercial contracts Independently research and analyze relevant information, interviewing key participants in the transaction as appropriate As a subject matter expert, remain current on sector technologies, developments, competitive landscape and trends Liaises with external clients and other parties as appropriate Travel for site visits or meetings within Canada and internationally, as appropriate Manage relationships with external technical consultants. This includes developing terms of reference, consultant selection and engagement, as well as ongoing liaison and review of reports Provide input to the corporate and sector strategy Job Requirements: Business and technical expertise in specified sectors. Displays and leverages in-depth knowledge in area(s) of specialization in the context of EDC business. Ability to exercise sound technical and business judgement, often with limited information. University degree in Engineering Minimum of 5 to 6 years (Technical Advisor) or 7 to 10 years (Senior Technical Advisor) of relevant business experience in a technical, consulting or other industry role pertaining to sectors specified Accreditation as a Licensed Professional Engineer, or eligibility for licensure Willing and able to travel within Canada and internationally for site visits or meetings, as dictated by business needs Keen sense of customer insight with the ability to understand and interpret the needs of internal and external clients.
