Job Description:

The Engineering Directorate at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is seeking candidates to serve as a Materials Engineer across their organizations. This position includes the development, evaluation, selection, and application of advanced structural materials to aerospace systems such as aircraft and spacecraft structures and their power and propulsion systems

Job Requirements:

  • Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b) and c) above To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
  • You must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level researching and resolving engineering related problems; performing calculations or computer simulations to predict material properties over time and under various environmental conditions and stressors; utilizing calculations and scientific techniques for testing, evaluating and integration of advanced structural materials to determine viability of advanced structural materials for aerospace systems, aircraft or spacecraft structures and their power and propulsion systems;
  • Required college majors for applicants qualifying on the basis of undergraduate or graduate education only (GS-7 through GS-11): Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Completed 3 full academic years of graduate education in an appropriate field
  • One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level applying theories, principles, practical concepts, and processes related to material engineering; preparing graphs, curves, and tables related to materials and their associated processes; performing basic material testing operations; assisting with identifying risk and resolving issues;
