Job Description
The Customs Controlled Goods Specialist is responsible for the all activities connected with the movement and import of goods subject to additional regulatory requirements in both the UK and EU. The role has responsibility for identifying goods that fall in to this category, obtaining supporting documents from suppliers, applying for the relevant certificates and making the relevant declarations in TRACES, PHILIS and other government agency systems for each of Primark’s importing locations – including the European Union, the United Kingdom, between Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and any location that may arise in the future. The Controlled Goods Specialist role is an integral part of ensuring compliance with the differing customs legislative requirements of the listed territories, including requirements under Brexit legislation. The role will entail liaising and building relationships with both internal and external parties, so all Customs requirements are adequately satisfied and delays at the border are kept to a minimum.
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing and documenting key business processes for controlled goods, including movements from outside the EU, between GB and NI, and stock movements around the Primark network of depots.
- Responsible for GB/NI Imports and movement of controlled goods in line with the Northern Ireland protocol
- Reviewing and maintaining master data, SOPs and reporting for system updates, including gap analysis
- Ensuring suppliers and other third parties are providing the correct information and supporting documentation in a timely fashion
- Working with Customs Operations team and our nominated customs brokers where applicable to identify requirements for each entry before the entries are submitted
- Responsible for European Imports and movement of controlled goods crossing European borders from all 3rd Country’s
- Analysis of records and data using excel tools to identify requirements and discrepancies and maintaining proper audit trails and reports
- identifying controlled goods which will require additional documentation and coding on entries
- Tracking shipments and being the first point of contact for any customs issues that may arise around controlled goods movements
- Working with the Customs Compliance teams to develop and enhance existing reporting, updates for new products and identifying gaps
- Applying for any required CHED documents via TRACES and submitting declarations to the relevant government authority as required
Job Requirements:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Current knowledge of EU and UK Customs legislation
- Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications (Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience of other government systems such as TRACES and PHILIS for example
- Project management or quality system experience desirable but not essential
- Experience in international trade, specifically in controlled goods (for example food, Agri)
- Ability to build relationships and work cross functions
- Advanced excel skills essential, including creation of macros
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
