Job Description: We are looking for a highly motivated individual to accelerate our vehicle-level testing for autonomous vehicles. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Test Engineer will help drive Tesla’s Autopilot program in two ways: supporting the development team with vehicle-level tuning and testing, and ensuring regulatory compliance of the vehicle in every market. The role requires someone highly organized and confident in their ability to manage projects along a very fluid schedule. This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 50%) to various domestic and international destinations as necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks and Proving Grounds. Job Responsibilities: Lead on & off-site test trips, including management and support of technicians in test vehicle setup and test execution. Work with internal engineering teams and external governing agencies to develop and validate vehicle performance. Design, develop and validate Tesla test procedures in the areas of Advanced Driver. Assistance Systems and Vehicle Dynamics (Pedestrian Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Avoidance, for example). Analyze data collected during testing to determine if the vehicle meets federal and internal requirements, and make recommendations to the internal design teams based on findings. Generate test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues found. Mentor less-experienced engineers to develop their engineering skills and knowledge of ADAS and other vehicle features. Design, fabricate, and modify test equipment and data acquisition systems to meet internal needs. Work with external test labs and proving grounds to direct testing activities. Job Requirements: Excellent written and spoken English. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment. Several years of vehicle testing experience specifically related to Vehicle Dynamics or Autonomous Vehicles. Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB or Python required. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent higher education required. Excellent attention to detail and highly observational. Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles at (or over) their limits on closed courses.
