Job Description: This position is a Cartographer Technician, GS- 1371-7 working in Hadley, Massachusetts for the R5-Division of Realty. Job Responsibilities: Assists in the tabulation and mapping of encumbrances that exist on Service Lands. Reconciles differences between the Service's Cadastral Geodatabase and the Realty Division Land Records System, a non spatial database. Assists in providing national GIS data to the Service and to the public. This includes preparing GIS data archives for delivery on the internet, creating GIS data packages and web services, and assisting in managing internet data servers. Documents the sources and procedures (creates metadata) used in data collection, compilation, transformation, application, analysis, and presentation. Gathers data including products produced by cooperating private, state, or Federal organizations. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the Division of Realty using computer hardware, software, and peripherals to acquire, collect, compile, transform, apply, analyze, and present cadastral, biological, natural resource, and other geographic data using GIS and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Both traditional GIS software and Internet based GIS applications are used. Plans and carries out routine work. Job Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Specialized experience includes having performed the following duties: Mapping of various land ownership, cover, soil or habitat types using data from various sources to produce high quality mapping products; utilizing GIS/GPS field equipment to conduct ground verification checks to improve mapping accuracy; assisting in the development of standards and procedures for GIS and remote sensing processes including quality control.
