Job Description:
This position is with the Eastern Regional Office, Engineering Staff. See Additional Information section for position duration, possible duty locations, and supervisor contact information.
This position involves professional engineering services for construction projects such as bridges, retaining walls, drainage structures, reinforced concrete structures, pavements, and forest roads.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop civil engineering plans for new construction.
- Prepare or supervise preparation of complete design packages that include cost estimates.
- Investigate need for and prepares engineering data for change orders, considering conditions of work site, field measurements and computations, and local prices.
- Review proposed construction changes and modifications, and recommend major changes to Lead Engineer in order to ensure the safety of all users.
- Inform contractor of requirements concerning construction scheduling, safety and sanitary measures, progress reporting, wage and hour laws observance, labor relations, and payroll records.
- Conduct safety inspections and condition surveys of road and complex trail bridges according to national standards and agency regulations.
- Evaluate, recommend, and direct construction and maintenance corrective action as needed to ensure the safety of all users.
- Interpret Agency policy and contracts for contractors and resolve problems relating to plans, specifications, materials, reports, etc.
- Evaluate design objectives, identifying economic, and efficient procedures.
- Responsible for contract compliance on assigned projects.
- Maintain current bridge inspection and condition files including computations and scour analysis.
- Conduct other program requirements as needed, including issuing bridge overload permits and design of moderately complex road bridges and minor, major, and complex trail bridges.
Job Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
